The city has a rich history in the development of Texas wherein, Comanche’s and other tribes wandered this area before the first German settlers arrived. In 1876, originally, Cibolo was named “Buffalo” by the Indians, until a local businessman – Mr. Schlather, renamed the city Cibolo after the Southern Pacific Railroad was constructed which connected with other larger cities such as Houston and San Antonio. Nearby private institutions include the Allison Steele Enhanced Learning Center. Also, Cibolo’s overall crime rate is lower than the average for the country.
